I finally got fed up with my ATT Treo 750 giving me the message "You have a missed call." instead of ringing the phone. Chucked the phone, the OS and the carrier.

After researching the options, I settled on the Droid X. In the research, I found:
  • Very similar hardware specs across the phones
  • Same OS (maybe different versions)
  • Different Carriers
So I went with the largest screen, because as a UX person, screen real estate is everything. I am am truly happy with the phone. As for the carrier, it seems to be better. I drive from Norcross GA to downtown Atlanta on a regular basis. ATT always dropped the call during the trip. So far, Verizon does not.

What surprise me most what that I did not miss the physical key pad. Not at all! The glass buttons are bigger. And, if you turn on haptic feedback (i.e. vibrate), you get the feedback you need to let you know you have successfully "pushed" a key. Turn the phone to landscape mode and you get really big keys (but not as much typed text display space. )

The four physical buttons along with the three soft buttons at the bottom of the home page are the right buttons for navigation and functionality. I can get the the phone app, contacts and additional apps for the soft keys and the home screen, more options/setting, and search, along with a back function, from the hard keys.

My only compliant so far is the Contact application. It doesn't open with a search text box input. Star Contacts (a free ap) works better. I have been trying to organize the apps available on the additional panels on the home screen - haven't settled on a system yet.

More to come...

Just a short post on Javascript. Is it just me or are there very few good IDE's for JavaScript? I was using Dreamweaver, but it seemed to be lacking. For debugging, I was using FireBug and Firefox. It was tough slogging. It didn't help that I was trying to implement in Protovis which creates method chains longer than the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
